The unexpected generosity of a woman from Ohio has changed the lives of so many dogs in an animal shelter. Patricia Wilson has bequeathed to the Dog Shelter of Richland Country in Mansfield a whopping $30,000. She hoped that with this amount, the rescue dogs will be taken care of and that they will have better chances of being adopted.
Patricia stipulated that part of her donation will be utilized to subsidize adoption fees to become more affordable to interested people. Therefore, the shelter decided to reduce the current adoption fee of $199 and is now offering a discounted fee of $169. The shelter thinks that they could offer this for a year until all the appropriated amount from the donation is used up.
The rest of the donated amount was dedicated to ensuring the happiness and care of the rescue dogs. The donation enabled the shelter to repair parts of the fence of the play area which had gaps. This will definitely ensure the safety of the pups while enjoying their time out of their kennels.
But not only that. The amount was big enough to enable the shelter to build a new play yard. This would mean that more canines can be let out of the kennels at a given time. Missy Houghton, Deputy Dog Warden of the shelter explained that this could translate to the increased ability of the rescue pups to learn better behavior and therefore preparing them to become more readily adoptable.
The shelter is still in awe of Patricia’s kindness as they rarely receive such a huge amount of donation. Marilyn John, the County Commissioner announced that to express the community’s appreciation, it has been decided to name the new dog play yard in honor of the kind benefactor. Thanks, Patricia, for your kindness and for inspiring everyone to make a difference.
