One evening in late March, Amber and Taylor Newsom were getting ready for bed with their young daughters when they suddenly heard their eight-year-old Labrador retriever, Marley, barking. Worried that something was wrong, the couple decided to check out the situation.
That was when they discovered an unknown man wielding a knife inside their Wylie, Texas home. Apparently, they forgot to lock their backdoor that night, allowing the guy to sneak into the house. However, before he could do anything else, Marley had already jumped into her family’s defense and scared him into a corner.
This gave Taylor the chance to start punching the intruder. The pup joined in the action, as well, and lunged into him with her open jaws. Unfortunately, in the middle of the fight, the knife-wielding man managed to stab Marley six times in the mouth and chest and Taylor in the stomach and arm.
He then fled the scene right away but was later captured by the authorities in a nearby creek. Because of the incident, the guy, who was identified as Thong Pham, had been charged not only with animal cruelty but also aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Meanwhile, Taylor and Marley were rushed to a healthcare facility. Fortunately, both didn’t sustain any life-threatening injuries and were expected to recover soon. However, Amber still couldn’t help but tear up at their dog’s bravery, admitting that the incident could have played out much worse had Marley not been there.
Her loyalty to them could have cost her her life, but it was clear that the Labrador retriever wanted nothing more than to protect her family from all sorts of danger. Of course, as a reward for her heroic act, the Newsoms gave Marley more snacks to eat and cuddled her to her heart’s content. Watch the canine’s story of bravery here.
