Last 2015, Liz Graffagnino Taft and her husband took in a rescue pitbull named Remus from the Flagler Humane Society, an animal shelter in Palm Coast, Florida. The pup was only about four years old then and had been used by his previous owner for dogfighting.
When Remus’s owner went to jail, authorities brought him to the shelter to find his next home. He eventually got adopted twice, but both families returned him, saying that he was too clingy. Fortunately, Liz and her husband came into the picture, and they were able to give the pit bull the home that he deserved.
The fur mom admitted that it did take months for the pup to conquer his fear and separation anxiety. But after showering him with love and care, it didn’t take long for Remus to transform into a sweet and affectionate companion. The couple encountered no problems with the pup in their six years together.
However, when Liz gave birth to their little daughter just recently, they began to worry about Remus. He had not been with any kids before, and they were afraid of how he would react to his human sister. Fortunately, they actually had nothing to worry about since the pup was a natural babysitter.
When he met the little girl, he was nothing but gentle and careful with her. He began following her around the house and would constantly lick her head every time she cried. But while this was already a big help, Remus decided to take his caregiving responsibilities to the next level.
You see, instead of just licking the baby when she cried, the pit bull also started bringing Liz her special breastfeeding pillow. He might have observed that his fur mom always used the pad for nursing the baby and making her stop crying. So whenever she would cry, Remus’s first course of action was to get the pillow.
Liz and her husband definitely found this very adorable and helpful. But they shared that his protectiveness towards his human sister was more than enough help for them. Watch Remus’s sweet attempt to comfort his baby sister here.
