It was no secret that 2020 had been a challenging year for everyone, especially with the pandemic catching us all off guard. Fortunately for David Carter and his family, they had their Goldendoodle Nahla. The adorable pup provided them with their much-needed emotional support and distraction, ultimately helping them get through the year.
David shared that he couldn’t be more grateful to have such a great family member by their side during those uncertain times. And he knew that all the other families with canines in their Saskatchewan, Canada neighborhood could say the same for their respective pups, too.
That was why when the fur dad came across the idea of a “Stick Library” online, he figured it would be the best way to say thanks to Nahla and all their furry neighbors. So he immediately began planning and enlisted the help of his ten-year-old son, Jeremiah, too.
Together, the father-son tandem started designing and building two boxes for the sticks using some leftover lumber. They also collected over a dozen sticks to make two “branches” of their Stick Library in two separate dog parks in their area.
As soon as they opened the libraries, it quickly became a hit among the pups and their owners. David said that it was exciting for him and his son to watch the dogs rush to the libraries to get a stick whenever they were at the park. Of course, they wouldn’t expect the canines to return the wooden pieces, but they still hoped that their owner would.
As of now, David and Jeremiah are already working on expanding the Stick Library to the other dog parks. They are also planning on improving the design with a stand, some hooks for lost and found items, and maybe even a container for balls. Here is the Stick Library’s Avalon Branch with Nahla by the side.
