Earl is a sick senior dog who was about to face euthanasia inside a high-kill shelter. He was picked up then as a stray, and without anyone adopting him, he was placed on the kill list. At that time, he was already very weak, emaciated, and lost all the fur on his back. Thankfully, a woman from Oregon came to his rescue.
Taking Earl
Emma Scott saw Earl’s video when one of their associate rescue organizations in Los Angeles sent it to her. As the founder of Northwest Dog Project, a non-profit rescue group in Eugene, Oregon, that provides a forever sanctuary to senior dogs, she felt terribly sad. She immediately set out plans to take Earl in.
Their LA associates filed the necessary papers for Emma and even arranged for transportation for the dog. And as soon as they arrived in Oregon, Emma met with them and took Earl into her car.
The dog somehow knew that his life was going to take a good turn. From the moment they drove off, Earl went to Emma’s side and placed his paw on her leg. He never took it off all throughout the ride.
A new reason to live
Although it seemed that Earl was content with his new home, his health was getting worse. He grew weaker and didn’t have any appetite. They even had to force-feed him using a syringe. It also seemed that his stomach became bloated.
They rushed him to a vet where they discovered that he had heart failure and it was in the final stage. Emma was told to say goodbye to Earl as it was likely that he had only 24 hours left. That night, Emma put the senior dog in his bed with tears in her eyes.
But the next day, they had a huge surprise. Not only was Earl still alive, but he seemed happy and more energetic. He started kissing Emma and even danced around the room. And as the days passed, Earl’s appetite returned and he put on some weight, his fur even started growing back.
Steadily, Earl became happier and showed more spunk. He was such a bubbly dog that it was difficult to be sad around him. Emma doesn’t know why he just suddenly changed, but she loves to think it’s because he felt that he is part of a family again.
